Numonics has been on my radar since I heard a song he produced by Dre Biggity called “On The Come Down.” As I noted our post about the track, there was “something special about the instrumental.” As much as we keep our loyal audience (Hipset, Hipset, Hipset, what, oww!) up to date on the most commercially relevant hip-hop artists and producers, we also shine light on the talented individuals who are not on the radar of the mainstream media. After all, our idea of the ‘best new hip-hop music’ is comprised of a variety of unique sounds from the underground up. Often times underground artists are equally, if not more talented than the artists MTV execs drool over. With that being said, check out Numonics in this exclusive Hiptics interview. He’s worth keeping an eye on!
Hiptics.com: First things first, how did you get your start producing?
Numonics: I always had a desire to make music. At around age 14 is when I started to teach myself. I originally made trip-hop and electronic music and slowly transitioned into making hip-hop beats. I was really always making hip-hop, just never started sequencing it appropriately ’til later on. Continue Reading

First it was Fella’s 2 Pills & A Half. Today we highlight Bobby Creekwater’s Not Now But Right Now. Earlier this year, Mr. BGOV teamed up with Atlanta’s Coalition DJs for this very impressive mixtape release. Not only is Bobby Creekwater 100% true to himself, but his MC skills are serious. Bobby Creekwater’s lyrics, which he delivers with a voice that some might compare to T.I.’s, are direct, witty, reflective, and include social commentary about the state of hip-hop.
You may have heard Bobby Creekwater when he called-in for an interview on Hiptics Radio this past Spring. If not, listen to the full interview here. You can download BC’s Not Now But Right Now below! Continue Reading

Cash Money Records is a symbol of sucess. Founded in New Orleans, LA in the early nineties by the Williams brothers–Bryan “Birdman” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams–Cash Money Records went on to sign a lucrative distribution deal with Universal Music Group based on the indiependent units the company was moving in New Orleans. Since going major, Cash Money introduced the world to the sounds of Lil Wayne, Mannie Fresh, Juvenile, B.G., and many more.
In 2010, Cash Money Records is bigger and more relevant than ever. With a roster that includes Lil Wayne, Drake, Kevin Rudoff, Jay Sean, and Nicki Minaj, there is no doubt that Birdman and Slim’s company has successfully adapted to the music industry’s always-evolving business model. Just weeks ago, Drake debuted #1 on SoundScan with over 400,000 copies of Thank Me Later sold the first week. Nicki Minaj is the first female rapper since Lil Kim to obtain the #1 rap song on Billboard. Heck, Lil Wayne can release a rock-n-roll album and still go gold!
However, if you follow music industry news like we do here at Hiptics then you notice a pattern of artists and producers all claiming to never have received compensation for their work with Cash Money Records. Most recently the Internet is buzzing about a Rap-Up interview with “A Milli” producer Bangladesh that features the beat-maker exposing Cash Money Records business ethics. Watch the video here.
We wanted to provide an account of all the artists and producers who claim to have been robbed by Cash Money Records. Are they all full of it or are these rappers and producers simply telling the truth? Do you think Cash Money Records robs their artists? Will we ever see the day when Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Jay Sean cry foul about Cash Money’s business practices? Read our report and take the poll at the end… Continue Reading
